How time flies so quickly. You can relate to this surely. The busier you are in life, the quicker time seems to fly by, like the latest installation of jets doing its showing off in front of the admiring crowds, out in their numbers, in their thousands. And of course, the wise old janitor has seen it all. He usually does not stray very far from the high school he started work with as a young man just out of high school himself.
There are those today who still seem to believe that a janitor is, how to put it, a casual laborer. This, of course, has never been true. Go to any public or private school where the school principal and the school’s governing body take the affairs of their students quite seriously and you will see that these responsible men and women regard the janitor as a very important member of the school’s staff component.
Indeed, whilst he is busy washing out his proverbial janitorial cleaning rags for the next morning’s work, he is acting out as an educator himself. If he is not giving wise counsel to those diligent and respectful students who would listen, he is leading by example. The one salient example for which he is already famous is that of good housekeeping and being respectful and mindful of the others’ private person and property.
He shows the youngsters what it means to have respect for yourself and those material things that’s still very much a privilege to enjoy. Sometimes even, he is in the thick of things where matters of security are concerned. Aside of the fact that he is usually the first to arrive in the morning, he is always one of the first to be on the spot when there is a crisis of sorts.
